Invites York Road Primary learners to join our Unplugged Coding Sessions as part of our Mandela Day Coding Tournament 2025 preparations.
These fun coding activities teach important skills such as:
- Logic
- Problem – solving
- Teamwork
In preparation for the tournament, coding sessions are normally held every MONDAY & WEDNESDAY @ 15H00
However
During the upcoming school holidays, sessions will also take place on additional weekdays to allow more learners to participate and practice.
These engaging sessions use physical coding tokens and are supported by new coding mobile-based games, Rangers Tangible and Juicy Gems, which teaches coding through interactive play. Learners will need to download the games beforehand onto a smartphone (Android, non-Huawei recommended).
Devices will be available at the library for those who do not have access to one.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
- Tournament date: 1 – 31 July (sessions will take place at Lansdowne Library)
- Game Format: Rangers Tangible and Juicy Gems (practice rounds available; new levels revealed in July)
- Team Structure: 3 – 5 learners per team
- Facilitators: Our staff will guide and support participants during the sessions
- Three categories:
- Primary School (no age restriction)
- High School: Grade 8 & 9
- High School: Grade 10 – 12
Winners from our library – level tournament will advance to the National Round on 28 August (online) and from there, top teams will compete in the World Championship on 29 September 2025.
Participation is free and learners are welcome to attend sessions regularly throughout July to increase their chances of success.
