The value of diversity and inclusion at York Road Primary
We aim to make York Road Primary a place where it is easy to be yourself. It is a responsibility we all share and is integral to our purpose as educators as well as to the values of York Road Primary. We need to be continually mindful of our biases and consciously inclusive, we need to encourage each other to embrace opportunities for growth. We need to recognise that a diverse and inclusive York Road family is essential to our ability to be an organisation that can adapt and prosper in an ever-changing world.
We need to as a family foster a unique, empowering culture….
The York Road culture must become our strategic differentiator, it is what will ensure that we as an institution stand not just out from the rest but way above the rest. As a culture-driven organisation, our values and morals must underpin and inform our conduct.
Our greater school community and the learners have always been at the heart of York Road Primary. The Values we try to inculcate in our learners and community should be known as the York Road Experience. An experience that positions our culture as the overarching, significant differentiator that guides all of our conduct as a whole.
We enable these Values through our physical and digital workplaces, how we position the York Road brand, how we communicate with and support each other, how we prioritise diversity and inclusion and create meaning at work, specifically focused on our purpose.
Our culture drives our behaviour, standards and expectations. It enables us to fulfil our purpose and achieve our objectives and creates a distinctive York Road Experience which requires everyone to play their part in a reciprocal way.
The Senior Management Team together with learners and the greater school community are responsible for delivering the York Road Experience with the intention of creating value, maximising growth and enhancing performance.
The quality of your thinking determines the quality of your life.
BREAKING THE GENERATIONAL CURSE
Quit yelling at your kids before they go to bed and expect them to sleep well.
Quit yelling at your kids in the morning right after they wake up, before school and expect them to have a good day.
You set the tone for your children. You set the tone for YOUR voice that they will always remember in their heads. You become their inner voice. Don’t be their inner critic. Let’s raise kids who don’t need therapy to heal from their childhoods.
Speak life. Speak love. Speak bravery and kindness and hope. Speak wisdom and truth. But most of all, listen to your children. Be their safety net. Be their Home. (From the Mind Journal, Michelle Sorenson)
To the staff of York Road Primary School, I would like to say THANK YOU for everything you continue to do on a daily basis to enrich the lives of those we entrust in your care. The difference you make in the lives and indeed the future cannot be quantified.
Be proud of how you’ve been handling these past few months. The silent battles you fought, the moments you had to humble yourself. Wiped your own tears and pat yourself on the back. Be proud of you!
