Circular 11/2023

On behalf of the School Governing Body and all staff, we wish to thank those parents who continued to support us during this term.

We strive to make York Road Primary a place where all staff and learners feel at home and where it is easy to be yourself.  It is a responsibility we all share and it is an integral part of the values we as educators uphold at York Road Primary. We need to continually be mindful of our biases and to consciously be inclusive, encouraging each other to embrace our diversity and opportunities for growth. We need to recognize that a diverse and inclusive York Road family is essential to our ability as a school that adapts and prospers in an ever changing world.

The York Road culture must become our strategic differentiator. It is what will ensure that we as a school stand out from the rest. Our School’s morals and values must guide the conduct of all role-players at York Road Primary.

Our greater school community and the learners have always been at the heart of York Road Primary. The Values we try to inculcate in our learners and community should be known as the York Road Experience.

We enable these Values through our physical and digital environment, how we communicate with and support each other, how we prioritise diversity and inclusion and create meaning at school.

Our culture drives our behaviour, standards and expectations.  It enables us to fulfil our purpose and achieve our objectives and creates a distinctive York Road Experience which requires everyone to play their part in a reciprocal way.

The Senior Management Team together with learners and the greater school community are responsible for delivering the York Road Experience with the intention of creating value, maximising growth and enhancing performance.

TERM THREE HIGHLIGHTS

Once again we wish to share our memorable moments with you:

• Successful implementation of extra-murals: Mediators, Netball, Soccer, Chess, IMAD, Book Club, Arts and Crafts, Reading Programme, Science Club, Ball skills and Catrobat kidz,
• Our Soccer boys played exceptionally well against teams from other schools. We are proud of each learner who represented the school this term. A special shout out to our Under 12 Soccer team who came 2^nd in the school league.
• Our Under 12 & 14 soccer boys were invited by Good Hope Seminary Junior School to participate in a soccer tournament. This provided them with an opportunity to showcase their talent.
• Grade 7 Entrepreneur Week – the Grade 7s enjoyed every moment.
• Grade R Pajama Day and excursion to the Science Centre
• Grade 4 excursion to the Iziko Museum and Planetarium
• Visit from Colgate to share with Grade 1 – 3 appropriate oral hygiene
• Learner & Staff Netball match

FUNDRAISING

We thank all parents who have supported our fundraising initiatives during Term 3, especially the

“Winter Wonderland Concert”. The Concert provided all learners with an opportunity to develop their creativity and performance skills. It highlighted many learners’ unique talents and was enjoyed by both learners and parents. Our fundraising initiatives are essential in assisting us to provide the necessary resources needed to ensure we maintain quality education at York Road Primary.

TERM 4

We return on the 10^th October 2023 for the final term of 2023.

Grade 3 and Grade 6 learners will be writing Systemic Tests on the 19 October 2023. Learners are to continue revising during the holiday.

UNIFORM

During Term 4 it is compulsory for all learners to wear the summer uniform as stipulated in the School’s Code of Conduct. (Available on the schools website (www.yorkroadprimary.co.za).

Learners may wear the official school sunhat which is on sale at school. The cost is R90. (limited stock available)

LEARNERS’ UNIFORMS

• Summer uniforms during the 1^st and 4^th terms of school.
• The appearance of learners in uniform must promote a good public image of the school.
• It is expected that all pupils of York Road Primary School wear his or her school uniform to and from school.

DISMISSAL TIMES

Dismissal times for the 4^th Term.

It is disappointing to note that many learners are still arriving late for school, some as late as 08h40. This is in contravention of WCED Policy. Many learners are also collected well after dismissal times.

Please be punctual when dropping and fetching your children as they will not be supervised after school. Collecting children after dismissal times places your child at risk.

SCHOOL FEES

Once again thank you to all parents who have paid their child/children’s school fees. We appeal to parents to pay School Fees as the funds are required to create a clean and safe environment as well as to provide quality education.

Please deposit school fees directly into the School’s Bank Account.

STAFFING

During this term we welcomed Ms F. Taliep, Grade 6 educator and Ms J. McCann, Grade 1 educator, to our staff. We would also like to congratulate Mrs. T. Lambert on the birth of her daughter.

A special thank you to the parents who have sent inspirational words of encouragement to staff members in the form of praise and thanks for the often, difficult work they do on a daily basis. It is truly appreciated.

Please take care and let the learners have a restful break.  Learners who have not been academically successful need to utilize their holidays for revision.
