Re: Welcome Back / Dismissal Times

Dear Parents/ Guardians

On behalf of the School Governing Body and all staff members I would like to welcome all our parents and learners back to school for the 2021 academic year. A special welcome to all parents and learners who are attending York Road Primary for the first time. I hope your time at York Road will be happy and successful.

In December 2020 York Road Primary bid farewell to Mr. C.C. Isaacs after 42 years of service to our school community. We wish him a happy, stress free retirement and thank him for his dedication to education.

In the absence of Mr. C.C. Isaacs and Mr. R. Mason, the acting principal position is filled by Mr. M. Johnson and the Acting Deputy Principal position is filled by Mrs. T.D. Mars.

We also welcome new staff members to our team of educators: Mrs. S. Mackrill – Grade R, Ms. T. Adams – Grade 7, Mrs. R. Hill – Librarian and Ms. Q. Jabaar. We hope their stay at York Road will be enjoyable.

2^ND HAND CLOTHING SALE (2021)

Please note that a 2^nd hand clothing sale will take place in the ‘Stop and Go’ area:

COVID PROTOCOLS

RED/BLUE PROGRAMME

A RED/BLUE Programme has been introduced.

This entails:

• Learners ONLY attending school on alternate days.
• Each learner is placed in a colour group, either RED or BLUE. (see attached Annexure)
• A calendar indicating the days on which each group has to attend school will be provided.

ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL

Upon arrival at school, should your child not meet the screening criteria which includes:

• a temperature exceeding 37.5 degrees Celsius
• display cough, shortness of breath or sore throat
• have been in contact with a COVID positive person

You will be contacted and your child will be sent home immediately. Parents are advised to seek medical attention and to keep the school informed as to the outcome.

Pre-screening must be done by parents, at home, to avoid your child being turned away at the gate.

If your child is ill, PLEASE keep them at home.

ACCESS CONTROL

• ONLY the school gates at the “Drop & Go” Area will be opened for learners.
• Entrance and exit for learners will ONLY be via these gates.
• Access commences from 07h30.

DISMISSAL TIMES FOR TERM 1

It is disappointing to note that many learners arrive late for school, some as late as 08h40. This is in contravention of WCED Policy. Many learners are also collected well after dismissal times.

Please be punctual when dropping and fetching your children as they will not be supervised after school.

Collecting children after dismissal times places your child at risk.

PARKING

Please do not park at the access gates or on the bend in Lower York Road. Parking is available in all the side streets. Park away from the Access gates and walk your child to the entrance. It is our intention to maintain our positive relationship with our school neighbours so please do not park across their driveways or block the  access to their premises.

PLEASE OBSERVE ALL ROAD RULES!

Thank you to all parents who are courteous and respectful towards our safety officers, staff, neighbours and other road users. We appreciate your patience and co-operation.

SCHOOL FEES

We appeal to parents to pay School Fees as the funds are required to create a clean and safe environment as well as to provide quality education.

Please deposit school fees directly into the School’s Bank Account.
